Window Background
Lets you set a background image per window type on any editor window, including windows from third-party editor extensions. It is the generic counterpart of the dedicated background settings for Hierarchy / Project / Inspector / Console / Animator, meant for windows that do not have one.
Configure it from the dedicated window opened via さたにあしょっぴんぐ/エディタカスタマイザー/ウィンドウ背景設定 (Satania Shopping / Editor Customizer / Window Background Settings) in the main menu. The feature as a whole is toggled with 有効化 (Enable, default ON) under "ウィンドウ背景" (Window Background) on the DockArea tab of Editor Setting.
Registering Target Windows
Register the windows you want a background on in either of these ways.
- Right-click a window tab → 「このウィンドウに背景を設定...」 (Set a background for this window...) … registers that window type and opens the settings window. For an already registered window, 「このウィンドウの背景を解除」 (Remove this window's background) also appears (for windows that have their own background settings, it opens the matching Editor Setting page instead — see below)
- The "+" button at the top left of the settings window … opens an "add" window listing every window currently open in the editor, one entry per type (including inactive docked tabs, floating windows and maximized windows). Search, check several, and press 「選択したウィンドウを追加」 (Add selected windows)
Windows that have their own background settings (Hierarchy / Project / Inspector / Properties / Console / Animator) are not targets of this feature and are grayed out in the add window. On their tabs, 「このウィンドウに背景を設定...」 opens that window's page in Editor Setting instead (Hierarchy / Project / Inspector / Console / Animator → Background), so use the background image settings there. SceneView / GameView have no background feature at all, so the menu item does not appear on them.
Settings (per window type)
Select an entry in the list on the left of the settings window and its settings appear on the right.
- 有効化 (Enable) … temporarily turn this type off
- 背景テクスチャ (Background Texture) / 不透明度 (Opacity, default 0.35) / スケールモード (Scale Mode, default ScaleAndCrop)
- 標準スタイルの背景を透明化 (Make standard style backgrounds transparent, default OFF) … while that window is being drawn, removes the background of the opaque standard styles (
box/helpbox/ScrollViewAlt/RL Background/OL Box). Useful when the window's content paints over the background. It has no effect on a window's own custom styles
Remove a registration with the "−" button on the list or 「このウィンドウの登録を削除」 (Delete this window's registration) at the bottom right (this removes both the project setting and the global setting).
Storage Scope (Global / This Project Only)
Each window type's settings are saved in one of two places. Switch with 「保存先」 (Storage) on the right; the list also shows the scope at the right edge of each row.
- このプロジェクトのみ (This project only) … used only in the project you are editing (
UserSettings/EditorUserSettings.asset). Registrations from the tab menu and "+" default to this (change it with 「追加先」 (Add to) in the add window) - グローバル (Global) … used in every project that has SCE installed (EditorPrefs, per machine)
When both exist for the same window, this project only takes priority and the row shows 「プロジェクト (G)」.
- 現在の設定をグローバルに保存 (Save current settings to global) … writes the current settings to the global side (created if missing, overwritten otherwise). The project setting stays as it is and keeps being used in this project
- リセット (グローバルに戻す) (Reset — back to global) … discards this project's setting and goes back to the global one. This is different from deleting, and is only available when a global setting exists
- Switching the storage to 「グローバル」 moves the setting there if no global one exists; if one does, the project setting is discarded and the global one is used (you are asked to confirm when they differ). Switching to 「このプロジェクトのみ」 creates a project-only copy of the global setting
- Textures of global settings are looked up by GUID first, then by asset path. Keep the same image at the same path in another project (or copy it together with its .meta so the GUID matches) and it just works; if it cannot be found, no background is drawn
How It Works and Limitations
- The background is drawn right after Unity paints the window's base and before the window's content. On IMGUI windows it therefore sits under the content; on UI Toolkit windows it shows through the gaps between elements
- Where the window itself paints an opaque background (toolbars, panels with custom styles, opaque UI Toolkit elements, etc.), the image is hidden
- The image is a fixed background that does not move when scrolling
- Floating windows without a tab (utility windows) use a different drawing path and are not supported. They are shown as 「タブ無し」 (No tab) in the add window and cannot be selected
TIP
The feature's 有効化 (Enable) toggle on the DockArea tab of Editor Setting must be ON for backgrounds to show. If it is OFF when you open the settings window, a warning and an 「有効化する」 (Enable) button appear at the top.
